Outside Lands

With another summer just starting in San Francisco (August till October), I find myself preparing for one of my personal favorite music festivals here in the city, Outside Lands. Held in Golden Gate Park of San Francisco, the festival is as close to nature in the city of San Francisco you can get to (I mean, come on there are buffalo grazing just around the corner from the meadow).

As the first day of the three day festival, I can't express my excitement, as I look upon a weekend full of fashion, music, dancing, friends, and laughter. With headliners like Elton John, Mumford & Sons, Black Keys, Kendrik Lamar, and Sam Smith; and not to mention a few of my favorites Hot Chip, Slightly Stoopid, Tame Impala, Robert Delong, Porter Robinson, & First Aid Kit. The festival is jam packed full of just about every type of musical genre, that is sure to leave any festival goer already looking forward to next year. However before longing for another festival before this one begins, lets be sure to focus on one of my favorite aspects.  The Festival Fashion at Outside lands.

Outside Lands is very unique in the fact that you have to almost bundle up to stay warm, once the sun goes down. From a creative perspective this gives us an amazing opportunity to express ourselves in new Festival way, a way in which warmth is a priority. I find myself able to layer without worrying about desert heat or southern humidity, from pulling out my flannel, to wearing big faux fur jackets, or even skinny jeans and maxi dresses. Outside Lands Festival Style will be sure to keep you surprised, so be sure to have your eye out for some unique styles and looks.

Florum whipped up a little Festival Style Guide! So be sure to take a look, get inspired and have an amazing time at Outside Lands!

XOXO

Tips on Submitting to Florum Fashion Magazine

Some of our readers may not know that Florum Fashion is a submission based magazine, although we do produce some of editorials here at Florum, most come to us from around the world.  And for those who do know and are looking to submit an editorial to Florum, please see below for some of my advice on the submission process.

Every time I see a submission land in my mailbox, my first thought is to look at the components of the shoot. This my friend, before even looking at the images, is the one tell tale signs of how much effort and thought went into the images. That said, if your looking for a tip on submitting to Florum Fashion Magazine; the first of my two tips, is to have a Full Team behind the images. If you are unsure and wondering what exactly a full team is, do not worry, unless you are involved in the fashion and beauty industry you may not realize just how many hours goes into every photo shoot that makes it onto our pages. Each photo shoot has not just the photographer and model, but a wardrobes stylist, makeup artist, and hair stylist (sometimes even nail artists or prop stylists). If you have these key components at your shoot,  the chance of your submission to Florum being chosen, has gone up tenfold. A great team creates a great image, as simple as that.

Besides a great team, the  location of your shoot plays an equally important role. My second tip is that the background to your images need to be strong to help accentuate the focus on the model. A cluttered background with an outfit full of a ton of accessories, generally is not going to look great. Don't get me wrong, I love the perfect amount of funk in an editorial, but believe me when I say that the so called "funk" was so precisely chosen that is somehow turns out just right. Fashion is always about pushing the limits and seeing where it will take you and how it might inspire you. This is my favorite part of every submission I review, taking a glimpse it the creativity of another and seeing someones vision in a photograph. It really is magical in my eyes.

I hope these tips and advice help you along with the submission to Florum Fashion Magazine, and if you find yourself looking for more advice and questions, please be sure to read our Submissions page. If you can't answer your question there, please leave a comment below or email us.

Good Luck with your submission! xoxo
